How to Treat Dandruff in Children 

Children who suffer from dandruff normally use medicated shampoos containing salicylic acid, ciclopirox or another antifungal. These medicines are usually effective against a broad range of yeast including malassezia and candida. Medicated shampoos for dandruff should be used two times a week for at least four weeks. To reduce irritation in children parents should brsuh thier hair before washing and use cool water. Excess shampoo should not be used as this can also cause irritation.

An antifungal cream can be applied to skin on other areas of the body. It is usually applied two times daily. A doctor will usually advise that it should be used for at least two weeks. People with severe seborrheic dermatitis may also receive a course of antibiotics.
